Galapagos freediving expedition
/ OVERVIEW
Adventure overview
The Galápagos Islands are a protected National Park and Marine Reserve, located in the Pacific Ocean off the coast of Ecuador. It is made up of 13 main islands and 7 smaller ones, of which only 4 are inhabited.
The Galápagos is famous for its unique wildlife and endemic species, meaning that they cannot be found anywhere else in the world. Charles Darwin visited the islands the 1830s and studied these unique species which inspired his groundbreaking work on evolution by natural selection.
Galápagos is a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1978, and it is recognized for its outstanding biodiversity and ongoing ecological research. Constant efforts are made to preserve the islands' unique ecosystems and protect their vulnerable species. San Cristobal Island
One of the 4 inhabited islands, and the coolest one of all, where there is SO MUCH to do and explore. It’s home to sea lions, giant Galápagos turtles, Galápagos sharks, marine iguanas, frigate birds, red and blue footed boobies, swallow-tailed gulls, and much more.
Key highlights
Tour 360
We will go on an all-day boat tour around San Cristóbal Island, stopping by beautiful beaches and snorkel spots that offer very high chances to see sea lions, sea turtles, rays, dolphins, frigates, boobies, and even hammerhead sharks and Galápagos sharks if we are lucky enough.
Isla Española
Isla Española is the oldest island of the Galápagos, and is only accessible from Isla San Cristóbal by a 2-hour boat ride. It's famous for the rare Waved Albatross and many other species that only live on this island, and nowhere else in the world. We will also have the chance to explore the marine life of the beautiful, crystal clear waters around the island.
Kicker Rock (Leon Dormido)
Kicker Rock is also known as "León Dormido" (Sleeping Lion) for its unique shape resembling a sleeping sea lion. It is one of the most iconic landmarks of the Galápagos, where we will have a high chance of encountering amazing marine species, such as Scalloped Hammerhead Sharks, Galápagos Sharks, Black Tip Sharks, Eagle Rays, schools of fish, sea lions, and more.
El Junco Crater & La Galapaguera
We will visit the highlands of San Cristóbal, including Laguna El Junco, a volcanic crater lake, and the Galapaguera Tortoise Breeding Center, where you will meet the local youngest and oldest Galápagos giant tortoises. Finally, we will head to Puerto Chino to catch the sunset, one of the prettiest beaches of the island with a spectacular view from the hilltop.
Playa punta carola
Punta Carola is our favorite beach on the island, and it’s also probably the favorite spot of local sea lions and marine iguanas. It also has the most amazing sunsets ever. You can enjoy real postcard moments surrounded by animals in the water and on the beach. It's a great place for some refreshing swimming and snorkeling.
Exploring tijeretas
Tijeretas is a hill with a gorgeous panoramic view of a cove with turquoise water. It's about a 20-minute walk from the town through a beautiful path full of large cacti and trees. The cove is a perfect spot for snorkeling and taking underwater photos. You can swim with playful sea lions, sea turtles, and colorful fish.
